Carbon Emissions Reduction Effect
Utilizing end-of-life batteries significantly contributes to reducing carbon emissions.
By reusing lithium-ion batteries, carbon emissions are reduced by approximately
70% or more compared to producing new batteries.
While about 70kg of co₂ is emitted during the production of a new battery
for every 1kWh of capacity, only about 21kg of co₂ is released when using end-of-life batteries.
This reduction in carbon emissions not only protects the environment but also offers economic benefits.
Under the carbon emissions trading scheme, the price of emission allowances ranges from about
25,000 to 30,000 won (approximately $25 to $30) per ton. The reduced carbon emissions achieved
through end-of-life battery utilization directly help lower the costs associated with purchasing these allowances.
